Typing and Revising Typing Text Inserting and Typing Over Existing Text Inserting Symbols and Special Characters Moving the Insertion Point

Typing Text /When you open Word XP, you can start typing right away. The insertion point will be at the top of the document. You don’t have to worry about typing perfectly, because it is easy to make corrections and changes at any time. Word automatically wraps text to the next line as you type. If you want to start a new paragraph, press ENTER.




You can click the Show/Hide button on the Standard toolbar to display or hide all nonprinting characters such as paragraph marks, spaces, …. These characters are not printed, whether or not they are displayed. 
  
   Inserting and Typing Over Existing Text

*  To insert text anywhere in an existing document:
1-  Position the insertion point where you want to begin typing.
2-  Type the text.



By default, Word moves existing text to the right as you insert new characters. If you prefer
to have new text replace existing text, switch to overtype mode:
1-  On the Status Bar, double-click “OVR”.
2-  Type the new text.


   Inserting Symbols and Special Characters
You can insert special characters, international characters, and symbols by using the Symbol
command on the Insert menu.
1-  Click where you want to insert the symbol.
2-  On the Insert menu, click Symbol, and then click the Symbols tab. The following screen appears.
3-  Double-click the symbol or character you want to insert.




                

  Moving the Insertion Point
The insertion point shows where the text you type will appear. As you type, Word scrolls the document to keep the insertion point visible in the window. If you want to insert text in another part of your document, you must move the insertion point to that location, and then insert the text.

 Using the Mouse:
1-  Using the scroll bars, scroll until you reach the location you want.
2-  Click the location where you want to position the insertion point.
 
Using the Keyboard:
1-  If you are using the numeric keypad, make sure “NUM LOCK” is off. 
2-  Do one of the following:


Press

To Move
One character to the left

One character to the right

One line up 

One line down

Ctrl + ←
One word to the left  

Ctrl + →
One word to the right 

End
To the end of a line  

Home
To the beginning of a line

Ctrl +↑
To the beginning of a paragraph 

PAGE UP
Up one screen

PAGE  DOWN
Down one screen  

Ctrl +Home
To the beginning of the document

Ctrl+ Down
To the end of the document
