Selecting Text and Graphics using the mouse and keyboard Correcting and Deleting Text

Before you can move, format, delete, or change text or graphic, you must select (block) the item. You can select using the mouse or keyboard; selected text or graphic are highlighted. 
To cancel the selection, click outside the selection, or use the arrow keys to move the insertion point.



  To select text and graphic using the mouse:


Do

To select    
Drag over the text.

Any amount of text
Double-click the word.

A word
Click the graphic.

A graphic
Move the pointer to the left of the line until it changes to a right arrow, then click.

A line of text
Move the pointer to the left of the lines until it changes to a right-pointing arrow, and then drag up or down.

Multiple lines of text
Hold down CTRL, and then click anywhere in the sentence.

A sentence
Move the pointer to the left of the paragraph until it changes to a right-pointing arrow, and then double- click. Or triple-click anywhere in the paragraph.
A paragraph
Move the pointer to the left of the paragraphs until it changes to a right-pointing arrow, and then double-click and drag up or down.
Multiple paragraphs
Click at the start of the selection, scroll to the end of the selection, and then hold down SHIFT and click.

A large block of text
Move the pointer to the left of any document text until

An entire document
 

To select text and graphic using the keyboard:

You can select text by holding down SHIFT and pressing the key that moves the insertion point. To improve your selection techniques, refer to the next table:

CTRL + SHIFT + RIGHT ARROW

To the end of a word
CTRL + SHIFT + LEFT ARROW

To the beginning of a line 
SHIFT + DOWN ARROW

One line down  
SHIFT + UP ARROW

One line up  
CTRL + SHIFT + DOWN ARROW

To the end of a paragraph  
CTRL + SHIFT + UP ARROW

To the beginning of a paragraph 
SHIFT + PAGE DOWN

One screen down
SHIFT + PAGE UP

One screen up  
ALT + CTRL + PAGE DOWN

To the end of a window  
CTRL + SHIFT + HOME

To the beginning of a document    
CTRL + A

To include the entire document       
CTRL + SHIFT + F8, and then use the arrow keys

  Correcting and Deleting Text

 2 -  Restoring Deleted Text
On the standard toolbar, click the Undo     button, if you change your mind after you
have undone an action, you can reverse by clicking the Redo     button on the Standard
toolbar  
  
3-   Replacing a Selection with New Text
1-  Select the text you want to replace.
2-  Type the replacement text.


4-   Undoing Mistakes
1-  Click the arrow next to Undo to see a list of the most recent actions you can undo.


  

2-  Click the action you want to undo. If you don't see the action, scroll through the list.
When you undo an action, you also undo all actions above it in the list.

 
If you later decide you did not want to undo an action, click the Redo    button.
